Religion and ethics

A feature of the public education system in NSW is the opportunity to provide time in class for education in ethics, faith and morality from a religious or non-religious perspective at the choice of the parents

The following options are available at Shortland Public School:

Combined Christian Special Religious Education provided by Baptist Union of NSW and the Australian Christian Churches.

Scope and sequences can be found on approved providers' websites regarding lesson content.

Combined SRE: Godspace.org.au

At Shortland PS, SRE (Scripture) takes place every Monday afternoon. Lessons are of 30 minute duration and are delivered by approved representatives.

A parent or carer may notify the school in writing at any time that they wish to change their decision regarding SRE. Students will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent or carer has requested a change in writing.

If your preferred SRE option is not available, please contact the approved provider. Students not attending SRE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.

For more information about Special Religious Instruction (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE), including the list of approved providers, please visit NSW Government Religion and Ethics.
