Personal development, health and physical education

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

School Aerobics

We are NSW State Champions!

On Sunday 21st June 2015, the 6 Aerobics girls travelled with family and friends to Sutherland Entertainment Centre. They performed on stage with a lot of enthusiasm. They were awarded silver medals and were formally invited to the School Aerobics Nationals to be held 14, 15 and 16 August 2015 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. As you can imagine, the girls are very excited as this will be the first time our school will be represented at the national level for school aerobics. Please join me in wishing them all the best in the lead up to this exciting opportunity.

Mrs Lyn Black

Aerobics Coordinator

Shortland Public School has been competing in Aerobics competitions since 2005. Aerobic movement is rhythmic and repetitive. It is based upon three fundamental skills of; endurance, strength and flexibility. Aerobics exposes students to a variety of musical concepts within a range of repertoires and techniques to enhance their performance skills. It also enables students to build self-esteem and confidence.

There are two aerobic squads at Shortland Public School this year. The Performance Squad consists of Year 5 and 6 students. They practise twice a week with Miss Ross. The performance squad participates in competitions and at school events throughout the year.

The Train-on squad consists of younger students from Years 3 and 4. They also practise twice a week with Miss Ross. The train-on squad performs in local carnivals and at school events.
